A Sacred History
The source is accessed from a pristine 700-acre property at the base of Mount Warning and is surrounded by ancient rainforests, National Parks and protected World Heritage listed sites that offer a window into the past. In 2008, Mount Warning was included on a list of eight iconic Australian sites under a Tourism Australia initiative. The region is now known as "Australia’s Green Cauldron".
Mount Warning holds deep significance for the Aboriginal people of the area and across Australia. They call the mountain 'Wollumbin', which means 'cloud catcher', and have known it for thousands of years as a place of cultural law, initiation and spiritual education. The mountain first made its appearance in recorded history when English explorer Captain Cook named it to warn future mariners of the dangerous offshore reefs he encountered on 16th May 1770.
While spiritually and culturally significant in both Aboriginal and European Australian history, Mount Warning is also the first place on the Australian mainland to be touched by the morning sun.
